Ready to tackle your spring jobs list? Your lawnmower is at the top, right? Getting it rust-free and ready for spring doesn’t have to be a problem. EVAPO-RUST® Rust Remover and EVAPO-RUST® GEL make it easy to remove lawnmower rust.

Steps to Remove Lawnmower Rust

Evapo-Rust® products are water-based, non-corrosive, and contain no acids or alkalis so they are easy to use. However, we do recommend using basic PPE (personal protective equipment) such as gloves, masks, or protective eyewear when working on a project. Soak the item or brush the rust remover on. Allow it to work. Then rinse away the rust with water.

Soakable Lawnmower Parts Derusting Steps

For soakable lawnmower parts, use EVAPO-RUST® Rust Remover to remove lawnmower rust in four easy steps.

Prep

Prep the object by removing excess dirt and oil before soaking. Pour enough EVAPO-RUST® into a container to cover the rusted object completely.

The type of container doesn’t matter since EVAPO-RUST® will not harm unrusted steel, is safe on other metals, and does not affect plastic.

Soak

Immerse the rusty object in the solution and leave it for 30 minutes for light rust or up to overnight for extremely heavy rust.

Rinse

Rinse the item with water when finished. If deep rust remains in pits, re-immerse the item until all the rust is gone. Un-rusted metal will not be affected. NOTE: This stage is especially important in getting the best results.

Finish

When the rust is gone, rinse with water and allow the item to air dry to help prevent rust for up to two weeks. Or spray the item with RUST-BLOCK™ to prevent re-rusting for up to 1-year.

Lawnmower Deck & Nonsoakable Parts De-Rusting Steps

For the lawnmower deck and any parts that you can’t soak, use EVAPO-RUST® GEL  and these steps to remove lawn mower rust.

Prep

Prepare the item’s surface by removing any dirt or grease. For best results, avoid using Evapo-Rust® Gel in direct sunlight and at temperatures between 60°F and 90°F.

Apply

Apply Evapo-Rust® Gel with a brush or roll. Wait for 1-2 hours or until rust disappears.

Rinse

It’s time to rinse! Remove with a soft towel and water and wipe dry.

Repeat

Re-apply if needed for heavily corroded areas.

Finish

Rinse with water and allow the item to air dry to prevent rust for up to two weeks. Or spray with RUST-BLOCK™ to prevent re-rusting for up to 1 year.
