5 STEPS TO REMOVE RUST FROM YOUR GARAGE DOOR
Want to make your garage door look as good as new? Follow these easy steps for removing rust from your garage door.
1. PREP
With a bucket filled with dish soap, warm water, and a large sponge/rag, clean off any accumulated dirt or debris stuck to the garage door.
2. APPLY
Wearing eye protection and chemical-resistant gloves, soak removable rusted parts in CRC EVAPO-RUST. Or, for larger items, saturate non-pleated paper towels and drape or wrap them over the rusted area. Then, wrap the paper towels with plastic wrap to cocoon them. Allow it to sit for twelve hours.
3. CLEAN
Rinse with water and wipe dry.
4. REPAIR
Sand any rough patches and fill holes (if any) using a bonding agent for metal. Once the bonding agent has dried, sand it with a fine-grit sheet. Sand the entire door for the best results. When you’re done, wipe away the dust with a dry cloth.
5. PRIMER/PAINT
Make sure you use a rust-resistant primer and paint for metal garage doors. Before painting your door, it is wise to apply primer to ensure better adhesion. Let the primer dry thoroughly and paint over with a color that matches your house or trim for a garage door that will make a great impression.
